Intelligent debate takes a back seat to stupidity. What happened:
- Congress wasted more people’s time and money, ‘debating’ that yes people get sick and need to pay their outrageous medical bills.
- A Georgetown law student, Sandra Fluke, was denied a chance to speak to the men (and few women) on Capital Hill about her being denied birth control under her insurance. At a hearing on healthcare and contraception.
- Radio host Rush Limbaugh opened his mouth, flaming piles of manure poured forth. You know, more than usual.
Overkill much?
It’s not that I don’t support Ms. Fluke’s right to speak, to testify, to healthcare that actually cares for her health; I do.
It’s not that I don’t find Limbaugh offensive; I do — when he steps in it so deep that it makes national news and I can no longer ignore his existence on the planet.

It’s the hype.
Story after story and all this buzz in the name of championing women’s rights.
Chatting with Barbara Walters and a guest appearance on The View? And since his political team thought it good PR with the voters - slow work day and all - a call of support from POTUS?!
If only I got so much love whenever anyone called me names.
Time to watch “The Contender” again
It’s not that some radio blowhard cannot comment rationally on the healthcare debate, that he uses sexist, misogynistic terms to demean women.
Yes, Ms. Fluke was insulted and deserved an apology. Absolutely, radio stations and advertisers should rethink their support of Mr. Limbaugh.
But this outpouring of sympathy and outrage is misplaced. The real issues are:
- Congress picks and chooses its witness – ‘fair and balanced’ can suck it – rigging the political game, per usual. This time they got caught – with some political staging and spin from all sides (fundraising FTW!) – but that’s being overlooked because a woman was insulted. Hell even that has been spun, fodder for an advertising boycott.
- A person’s sex life should not be an issue. Ever. And don’t get me started debating whether or not anyone – male or female – is a ‘slut.’ You have a job. You (and/or your employer) pay for health insurance. It should cover what it fucking needs to cover, no matter what kind of sex you do or don’t have. Period.
“Sluts” deserve good healthcare too – and have a right to be heard.
