Movies, TV, Twitter circa 2017: Year in Review
Egads 2017 was kinda the shit year we knew it would be. See also: why I haven’t been here lately. (Made it under the year mark!)
Twitter is Awesome at Terrible. And funny.
Whenever anything big or bad, great or crazy, even just fun or silly that’s when Twitter really shines. Trolls and haters and bots aside, Twitter cuts right through a lot of the bullshit to the real story.

Best I think is politics and current events, as it’s my sanity check and cheaper than a shrink. It’s terrifying the power bullshit has; horrifying how legit media has lost its credibility, in part because of its own bias; and fucking disturbing how so much of this is somehow NOT obviously so very wrong.
I’ve probably tweeted and retweeted more than ever this year. Thank you Twitter.
I’m what’s wrong with Movies.
I make bad choices at the movies, which is why we get sequels and remakes and other blockbuster crap like Aliens and the shot-for-shot, complete copycat Beauty and the Beast. Then again, I also see Oscar bait like Phantom Thread and am like, meh.. should have waited for cable. The Post was ok, ditto Dunkirk.
Movies like Wonder Woman and Thor: Ragnarok don’t get the credit they deserve; yes they’re super hero big budget flicks. They’re also well done, well told stories. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Spiderman: Homecoming were a little – ok a lot bloated but entertaining. Logan (and Xavier) was a great Last Stand for both.
Not debating merits of Last Jedi; had its moments, and did not. Blade Runner 2049 and Baby Driver were good but overrated. Laughed at Girls’ Trip and was surprised that Jumanji showed some genuine creativity with its money grubbing reboot.
Is it time to pay for streaming?!
Thinking Netflix and Hulu are where all the good shows have gone. But there’s not enough there there vs. the cable I have. IDK.
FX will retire The Americans soon. TNT and USA have some fluffy shows but nothing special. I am amazed at how sophomore This is Us has slumped; feeling way too ‘very special episode’ this season.
The CW does better what DC can’t on the big screen, making its cache of super heroes fun and entertaining. Then again, every cross over makes it clear that Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Legends are lacking on their own.
And HBO is retiring cash cow Game of Thrones, to bankroll a bunch of we-already-know-all-this-and-give-zero-shits prequels when we’d rather just more of the show and characters we already want!!! Ahem. Another shortened, hurry up, skip over the good stuff, what the fuck was that Season 8 will be its last in 2019.
I’ve typed enough. I’ll be on the Twitter, going to movies and watching TV. Bring it 2018. Comments? Go ahead, type your typing.
